FSFFL Weekend Rundown
Returning from the holiday layoff, the FSFFL got off to running start as the Broncos and Vikings squared off in their week 3 matchup live from the Soccerplexe in Lachine. Coming into the game I expected there to be some sluggish play. But that’s the thing about Flag Football when you’re a baller, you ball and the Vikes were all balling out over the under manned Broncos squad, who were short an estimated four to five players. Between quarterbacks Marco Dube and speedster Ayden Conroy, the Broncos couldn’t seem to get things rolling. The Vikings, Jordel Springer, had a total of four interceptions which helped carry his team to victory. After the game I got a chance to speak to Jor on his mindset coming into the game. The uber talented and playful Sonic Springer was asked what he did to prepare for the game his response was “I turned on the gloves, that’s about it!” What else can I say… big time players make big time plays. Evidence of that can be found in the highlight reel as a follow up. On the bright side, for the Broncos, after getting a chance to see them play before the break, I can honestly say they’ll be fine heading into their next game, hopefully at full capacity.
Final score Vikings 28 Broncos 8
Panthers vs Eagles
In the second game of our triple header, the Panthers and Eagles took the field, with the Panthers looking for their first win of the season. The Eagles struck first with a quick score and the Panthers responded immediately with a score of their own and took a commanding lead shortly thereafter. Quarterback Simon Therrien threw for a whopping 5 touchdown passes, three of which went to the Peat twins (in Remi and Levi). If you were to ask me how I tell them apart. I wouldn’t be able to tell you that, but I will say their play did all the identifying for them on the score sheet. As they combined for 4 catches 101 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jayden Cauvier also had himself a game, as he made due with 2 catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns leading to a huge victory over the Eagles. Speaking to the [Eagles] coaches after the game, they touched on the teams down play, with the long layoff at hand. The Eagles did have a few bright moments with stellar plays by their top tier QB Blake Cyprinski and the nifty speedster Logan Gonzalez. A little food for thought from yours truly, sometimes you just got to throw away a bad performance and get ready for the next opportunity to take the field again. Like the Broncos, the Eagles had a bad showing over this past weekend, but with the coaching staff and players on their roster they should be able to make due, ride the ship and get off the schneid.
